Histopathological classification and clinical pattern of chronic gastritis in Koreans

Abstract
Gastric biopsy and also gastric juice analysis under the direct gastrofiberscopy was performed on 96 patients, whom they complained of various clinical symptoms, even though there were no significant abnormalities in Upper GI series, Jan, from of 1977 to Jan, of 1978 at Jeonbug medical college hospital.
The results were obtained as follows ;
1. The sex ratio of male and female in chronic gastritis was 1.6 : 1 and also higher incidence of the diseases were found in 3rd, 4th and 5th decades of life.
2. Histopathological types of chronic gastritis were atropic metaplastic gastritis (36.2), hypertrophic gastritis (28.7), atrophic gastritis (14.9%), superficial gastritis (8, 5%), simple gastritis and verrucous gastritis (4.3%).
3. Histopathological types of hypertrophic gastritis were hyperplastic hypertrophic gastritis (48.1%), atrohic hyperplastic gastritis (18.5%), hypertrophic interstitial gastritis(3.7%) and hypertrophic metaplastic gastritis (29.6%).
4. Over all incidence of fundic atrophy in miucosa of the stomach was 51.1% including atorphic metaplastic gastritis (36.2%) and hypertrophic metaplastic gastritis (29.6%).
5. Clinical symptoms of chronic gastritis were epigastric pain and fullness, discomfort in epigastrium, hunger pain, indigestion and neurotic symptoms such as dizziness, headache, and palpitation etc. The prominent symptoms of atrophic gastritis were huger pain, general malaise, indigestion, anorexia and sore tongue.
6. The geographic distribution of the stomach in chronic gastritis was more severe in body and fundus than in pyloric and antral region.
7. The stomach acidity by. Reffus method in chronic gastritis was not chnged abnormally.
